# The South African Federation of Trade Unions has expressed strong opposition to the draft Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Amendment Bill. The bill seeks to amend the Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act of 1998. It was enacted to prevent arbitrary evictions and address historical injustices where people were removed from land without due process. Saftu’s Asive Dyani says the bill is dangerous and regressive:
