DA says Gauteng job creation prospects in doubt as tourism declines

# The DA in Gauteng says the tourism economy is falling behind national recovery trends despite its position as South Africa’s commercial gateway. The party says nationally, domestic overnight trips grew to 12.1-million in the second quarter of 2025, an increase of 30.7-percent year on year. The DA’s Mike Moriarty says however, Gauteng moved in the opposite direction, recording a 39.7-percent drop in domestic overnight trips in quarter one and a further 25.8-percent decline in quarter two.
