Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# A missile is fired from Yemen for the first time during the Middle East conflict
# The ANC in the Eastern Cape tells its conference delegates to “go home”
# And golf: Tiger Woods is released on bail following a car crash and a charge of driving under the influence
# Israel today said it had detected a missile fired from Yemen, the first since the Iran war began, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. expected to conclude military operations within weeks, not months. Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis said earlier they were prepared to act if what the group called an escalation against Iran and the “axis of resistance” continued. Houthi involvement in the war would risk broadening the conflict, given their ability to strike targets far beyond Yemen and disrupt shipping lanes around the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea.
# The ANC in the Eastern Cape has told the delegates for the party’s 10th provincial conference to go home after the High Court in KuGompo City ordered a postponement of the event yesterday. ANC Provincial Secretary, Lulama Ngcukaitobi, told Newzroom Afrika that the conference was suspended due to legal issues raised by national Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, pending resolution of all matters in court:
# The DA has welcomed the confirmation that the South African National Defence Force deployment in support of SAPS will commence on Wednesday in communities affected by gang violence in the country. The party says communities facing daily violence deserve urgent intervention. The DA’s Nicholas Gotsell says Parliament still does not have clarity on how the 823-million-rand allocated to this deployment will be spent:
# Golf: Tiger Woods has been released on bail following his arrest on charges of driving under the influence after rolling his car in a crash in Florida yesterday afternoon. Sheriff John Budensiek at the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said the 15-time major champion was also charged with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Woods, 50, rolled his Land Rover after clipping a truck in Jupiter Island yesterday afternoon:
# Motorsport: Kimi Antonelli took his second pole position in a row as he beat Mercedes team-mate George Russell in qualifying at the Japanese Grand Prix. Antonelli was fastest throughout qualifying and beat Russell by 0.298 seconds despite not improving on his final run at Suzuka. Russell beat McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who will be joined on the second row by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. McLaren’s Lando Norris was fifth after a troubled weekend so far, ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari, while Max Verstappen was knocked out in the second session and will start 11th.
# And finally: The City of Cape Town has recorded 50-percent drop in tuberculous diagnoses as testing increases from one-thousand-500 to seven-thousand monthly. The TB positivity rate dropping from 20-percent in 2021 to 10-percent in 2025. Mayoral committee member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, says these local gains align with the World Health Organisation’s End TB strategy, which calls for mobilising leadership, strengthening investment in TB programmes, and accelerating the rollout of newer, faster diagnostic tools.
