In this bulletin:
# Cape Town police are investigating a taxi-related triple murder in Delft
# The UN Security Council approves a resolution condemning Iran’s attacks on its Gulf neighbours
# And rugby: France’s Oscar Jegou is banned for four games for eye-gouging Scotland’s Ewan Ashman
# Three people have been shot and killed in a suspected taxi-related incident in Delft, Cape Town, this morning. Police say a minibus stopped at a taxi rank on Main Road, Voorburg, and shots were fired from inside the vehicle. The suspects thereafter fled the scene. Two men, aged 55 and 58, were declared dead on the scene, while a third victim, aged 38, died in hospital. No arrests have been made.
# The EFF has asked the chairperson of Parliament’s portfolio committee on International Relations and Cooperation, Supra Mahumapelo, for an urgent special meeting on the new US ambassador in the country. This follows Leo Brent Bozell’s remarks at the BizNews conference. He has received backlash over his utterances on the country’s foreign policy and domestic laws. The EFF says Bozell’s comments are unbecoming of a diplomatic representative and undermine South Africa’s sovereignty.
# Agricultural organisation, TLU SA, says the latest economic figures once again confirm South African farmers are a cornerstone of economic stability, food security and development. The latest gross domestic product figures from Statistics South Africa show the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector grew by 17.4-percent last year compared to 2024. Spokesperson Caria van der Merwe says agriculture is by far the strongest growth in the economy’s primary sector:
Moving abroad:
# The United Nations Security Council has voted unanimously to approve a resolution demanding an end to Iran’s attacks on its Gulf neighbours. The resolution condemns recent Iranian missile and drone strikes against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. Bahrain’s UN ambassador, Jamal Alrowaiei, says the international community is resolute in rejecting the attacks against sovereign countries in a region of strategic importance to the global economy:
# Rugby: French flanker Oscar Jegou has been handed a four-game ban and will miss Les Bleus’ final Six Nations clash against England on Saturday. An independent disciplinary committee found the 22-year-old guilty of making reckless contact with the eyes of Scotland’s replacement hooker, Ewan Ashman, during last weekend’s 50-40 defeat in Edinburgh. The committee handed Jegou a six-match ban, but immediately shaved off two games because of his good disciplinary record and the fact that he didn’t cause any lasting injury to Ashman.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-53-cents and the euro at 19-rand-9-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-13-cents and Bitcoin trades at 69-thousand-946-dollars. Gold sells at five-thousand-179-dollars-56-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 94-dollars-81-cents a barrel.
