# The EFF says reconciliation cannot be celebrated while apartheid-era injustice, land dispossession and economic exclusion persist. Tuesday marked the Day of Reconciliation in South Africa. The EFF’s Nqobile Mhlongo says over three decades into democracy, the wounds of apartheid remain open because the crimes of apartheid were never decisively confronted. She says reconciliation without accountability is not unity, it is enforced amnesia:
# The MK Party says the Day of Reconciliation cannot be commemorated in a country where black people are still denied land ownership, subjected to high unemployment, and still endure hunger and poverty. Tuesday marked the Day of Reconciliation under the theme, Reaffirming Reconciliation for Future Generations. MK Party’s spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, says the commemoration dishonours the sacrifices of the ancestors who gave their lives in pursuit of justice, humanity and self-determination:
# Deputy minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe, has expressed shock and sadness at the death of Radio and club DJ Warrick Stock. Popularly known as DJ Warras, he was killed by an unknown gunman in the Johannesburg CBD yesterday afternoon. Mabe says DJ Warras’ murder is a painful reminder that violence continues to take lives that contribute positively to South Africa’s creative economy:
# The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has charged Nick Reiner with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances in connection with the fatal stabbing of his parents. Hollywood director Rob and his wife, Michele Reiner, were found dead in their home in Brentwood, California, with multiple stab wounds on Sunday. LA County District Attorney, Nathan Hochman, says Reiner also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife:
# Hockey: South Africa’s Indoor Hockey World Cup bronze medallists defeated Australia 10-4 to win back-to-back Nkosi Cup titles in Wynberg, Cape Town. Five goals from the player of the match, Mustapha Cassiem, a hat-trick from his brother Dayaan Cassiem, and goals from Ryan Julius and Keegan Hezlett secured victory for the hosts. New Zealand won bronze. Meanwhile, the SA women’s team claimed their first-ever Nkosi Cup title by beating Australia 4-3, with goals from Edith Molikoe, Tatum Kroutz, Malikah Hamza, and Cerian Fourie. Namibia claimed the bronze medal.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-75-cents and the euro at 19-rand-65-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-45-cents and Bitcoin trades at 87-thousand-109-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-324-dollars-9-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 59-dollars-39-cents a barrel.
