# ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa says the National General Council will chart the path to address South Africa’s challenges and shape the future of the ANC. Speaking in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, Ramaphosa noted that the assumptions of the National Democratic Revolution face new complexities, demanding ideological clarity, discipline, and tactical agility. He urged members to assess shifting forces and examine crises facing South Africans:
# The National Consumer Commission has announced major vehicle recalls affecting Jeep and Kia models. Stellantis South Africa is recalling 323 Jeep Wranglers sold between 2016 and 2018 due to dust entering the clock spring, which may cause the driver airbag not to deploy in a crash. The commission’s Phetho Ntaba says Kia South Africa has also issued a recall for 18-thousand-600 vehicles, including the Sportage, Sorento, Optima, Cerato and Soul models sold between 2009 and 2015:
# The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services have confirmed that the mountain fire above De Doorns in the Hex River Valley has been fully contained. The municipality’s Jo-Anne Otto urged residents and visitors to remain cautious while operations continue:
# The Indonesian island of Sumatra will require more than 50-billion-rand in reconstruction and recovery funds following deadly floods. The death toll from the cyclone-induced floods and landslides has now reached 950 with 274 people still missing. The storms also killed about 200 people in southern Thailand and Malaysia. Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency says the recovery funds needed may still increase as the agency continues to calculate the damage. The reconstruction process will start soon in North and West Sumatra, which have recovered relatively well.
# Tennis: The national club championships will return next year after a hugely successful inaugural competition. Over 450 clubs participated this year. The championships will start in February when district competitions in Gauteng, the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape. These will be followed by nine provincial tournaments, with the winners going through to the national final, taking place at Sun City in North West in September. Each club team will consist of two men and two women, who will play men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-95-cents and the euro at 19-rand-75-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-60-cents and Bitcoin trades at 91-thousand-596-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-208-dollars-42-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 62-dollars-66-cents a barrel.
