# First up we have cricket: Saturday’s final one-day match between South Africa and India in Visakhapatnam will decide the winner after the Proteas defeated the host by four wickets in the second match in Raipur to level the series. Virat Kohli scored 102, his 53rd ODI century, while Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 105, his maiden century in this format, as India posted a daunting 358 for five. In reply, Aiden Markram led the chase, scoring 110, his first ODI ton, as the Proteas reached the target with four balls to spare.
# Rugby: Legendary All Blacks fly-half Dan Carter says the possibility of New Zealand facing South Africa in the 2027 World Cup quarterfinals is an exciting prospect. The back-to-back world champion Springboks have been drawn along with Italy, Georgia, and Romania in Pool B, while the All Blacks are in Pool A alongside the hosts Australia, Chile, and Hong Kong China. Carter, a double World Cup winner, says once you get into the knockout stages of the competition, it doesn’t really matter who you face:
Meanwhile, tickets are still available for this weekend’s world sevens series tournament in Cape Town. Prices start at 250-rand per person per day. The Blitzboks, the defending champions, are in a demanding group with New Zealand, who won the season’s first tournament in Dubai last weekend, Fiji and Great Britain. They are still stressing over the fitness of playmaker Selvyn Davids and powerful forward Ryan Oosthuizen, who were both injured in Dubai. Action starts at the Cape Town Stadium at 10 o’clock Saturday morning.
# Golf: The Gary Player country club at Sun City in North West will present several challenges in the annual Nedbank Golf Challenge which started this morning. This follows a number of changes that may reportedly have a huge impact on the outcome. Tournament director Ken Payet says 90-year-old Player had been instrumental in making these changes. He says they want to provide a great spectacle as well as a challenge for the participants. This year’s prize money is a whopping 102-million-rand, of which the winner will earn 17.5-million.
# And motorsport: The FIA’s presidential election is set to go ahead in Uzbekistan next week, although a legal challenge could overturn the result. Swiss racing driver Laura Villars had sought an emergency judgment to suspend the election. Villars, along with two other former FIA presidential hopefuls, was forced to drop out of the race after failing to put together the required slate of potential vice-presidents from the official list of 29 by the 24 October deadline. Villars’ challenge against the FIA’s election process will be heard on 16 February.
