# President Cyril Ramaphosa will today address a Men’s Indaba against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, organised by the office of the Premier of the Free State. This as the country is observing 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. This year’s theme is Letsema: Men, Women, Boys, and Girls working together to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide. The Presidency says at the event, Ramaphosa will be calling on men to be more active and involved in preventing the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide.
# Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, has announced the full implementation of the South African Construction Action Plan. The plan is aimed at fixing delayed and over-budget projects and rebuilding the country’s construction sector. Macpherson says the plan is built on six key actions that address the root causes of underperformance. He says these are introducing accountability and contractor blacklisting, fixing cash-flow constraints, introducing digital infrastructure tracking, procurement reform, strengthening audit and governance outcomes, and professionalising the built environment:
# The South African Municipal Workers’ Union has criticised the DA’s suggestion that the City of Tshwane must reconsider its decision not to take the backdated salary increase award on review. The metro has been obligated to pay two-billion-rand in salary increases backdated to 2021. It has until 14 December to take the matter under review to the Labour Court. Samwu says the DA’s recent declaration is not a genuine financial plan to save the metro, but rather a declaration of open war against the working class.
# President Donald Trump has condemned the shooting of two West Virginia National Guard soldiers near the White House in Washington, describing the attack as an act of terror. The guardsmen were performing high-visibility patrols before a suspect appeared and opened fire, leaving them critically injured. Authorities believe the shooter, who has been arrested, is from Afghanistan and came to the US in 2021. FBI Director Kash Patel says the soldiers were brazenly attacked in a horrendous act of violence:
# Soccer: Defending champions Paris St-Germain came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-3 and move into second place on the Champions League group phase table. Goals from Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani gave Spurs the lead twice during the game. However, Vitinha’s hat-trick and goals from Fabián Ruiz and Willian Pacho inspired PSG to victory. Liverpool suffered another shocking defeat, being beaten 4-1 by PSV at Anfield. Arsenal maintained their 100-percent record in the competition, beating Bayern Munich 3-1, while 15-time champions Real Madrid defeated Olympiakos 4-3.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-11-cents and the euro at 19-rand-85-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-68-cents and Bitcoin trades at 91-thousand-237-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-147-dollars-93-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 62-dollars-7-cents a barrel.
