# KwaZulu-Natal Director of Public Prosecutions, Elaine Harrison, has acknowledged developments in the case of convicted criminal Stuart Scharnick. Acting head of detectives, Anthony Gopaul, alleges Scharnick, linked to suspended deputy police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, was shielded by corrupt officials. Investigations in January revealed possible tampering with his criminal records. Police and the National Prosecuting Authority are now collaborating, with relevant dockets to be handed to Harrison’s office for further investigation following Scharnick’s defamation case against head of Crime Intelligence, Dumisani Khumalo.
