# The BBC has apologised to US president Donald Trump over the editing of a speech in a Panorama programme in 2024, which led to the resignation of its director general, Tim Davie, and news chief, Deborah Turness. The programme had misleadingly edited a speech by Trump to make it appear that he had directly called for violence on Capitol Hill in January 2021. The BCC says while it sincerely regrets the manner in which the speech was edited, it strongly disagrees that there is a basis for a defamation claim.
