# The DA has condemned the unlawful imprisonment of Tanzanian opposition leader Tundu Lissu on trumped-up treason charges as the country holds its general election. The party also criticised president Cyril Ramaphosa and International Relations and Cooperation minister Ronald Lamola for remaining silent. The DA’s Ryan Smith called on South Africa to defend democracy in Tanzania and the region to protect stability and uphold constitutional values:
