Parliament engages black traders about lease concerns at Transnet Island View Precinct

# Parliament’s Portfolio Committees on Trade, Industry and Competition, and Transport met with black traders over concerns about Transport minister Barbara Creecy’s directive to renew 25-year leases at Durban’s Transnet Island View Precinct. Traders allege oil majors control port infrastructure and limit fair access. Creecy and Mineral and Petroleum Resources minister Gwede Mantashe defended the move as transformative, while NERSA raised concerns over inadequate consultation. The committees vowed continued oversight to ensure genuine transformation and energy security.
