# The Railway Safety Regulator has recorded nine-thousand-200 safety-related incidents in its 2024/25 report, a 7.2-percent decrease from last year. Fatalities dropped to 81, the lowest in five years, however, injuries rose to 336, the highest in the same period. The regulator says operational incidents, up by nearly eleven-percent, were driven by infrastructure decay and signalling failures. Security incidents made up 70-percent of reports, with KwaZulu-Natal recording the most. CEO Brian Monakali urged urgent collaboration and investment to strengthen rail safety.
