# The City of Cape Town says the impacts of climate change have become even more apparent in recent years in the metro, with increases in fires, floods, landspouts and coastal storm surges. Today is International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, with this year’s theme being, Fund Resilience, Not Disasters. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says Cape Town’s disaster resilience efforts include the Winter Readiness Task Team, mandated to implement risk mitigation measures to reduce weather-related impacts:
