# Limpopo provincial police commissioner, Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned the conduct of four SAPS members from Limpopo arrested for an alleged house robbery. Police spokesperson, Hlulani Mashaba says they were taken into custody in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga together with a civilian. The incident took place at Mashishing on Thursday night. He says the victims, all Ethiopian nationals, were asleep when they were overwhelmed by the suspects:
# The South African Communist Party has condemned what it called the military aggression perpetrated by the United States against Venezuela. This follows multiple military strikes on alleged drug boats off Venezuela by the US defence force. The SACP’s Pius Vilakati says the attack is a clear violation of international law and an act of war which threatens Venezuela’s peace and security:
# Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi is urging African leaders to strengthen and invest in public hospitals in their countries. Motsoaledi was speaking during the annual Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation Drakensberg Growth Forum 2025. Last month, Motsoaledi underwent successful eye surgery led by a team of mainly young medical professionals at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital`s St John Eye Clinic in Johannesburg. The minister says Africa is the only continent that has its leaders seeking medical services outside the continent:
# The Department of Water and Sanitation has strengthened its flood preparedness and water management systems to ensure full readiness for the forthcoming rainy season. The department’s acting spokesperson, Sanku Tsunke says the South African Weather Service forecasts above-normal rainfall between October 2025 and January 2026 across the central interior and eastern coastal regions:
# UK prime minister Keir Starmer will join US president Donald Trump at an international peace summit in Egypt on Monday where the Gaza ceasefire plan will be signed. Starmer will be among 20 other world leaders in Sharm El-Sheikh to discuss peace and stability in the Middle East. In Gaza, aid groups are scaling up relief efforts with queues of lorries entering through the Rafah crossing into the territory this morning. Hamas has until midday on Monday to release all Israeli hostages, while Israel is expected to release one-thousand-700 detainees from Gaza and about 250 Palestinian prisoners.
# And Cricket: Pakistan captain, Shan Masood, won the toss and chose to bat first at the start of the first of two tests against South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore today. The home side included three specialist spinners and two seamers on a dry and cracked pitch. The Proteas did the same with the inclusion of Senuran Muthusamy, Prenelan Subrayen and Simon Harmer. Kagiso Rabada and Wiaan Mulder are the seam bowling options. In a surprise move South Africa dropped batsman David Bedingham and replaced him with the young Dewald Brevis.
