# The Soil of Africa Civic Movement will lead a shutdown of all Department of Home Affairs offices across Tshwane today. This is in response to the department’s ongoing failure to unblock the identity documents of thousands of South African citizens. The High Court in Pretoria found that the department’s practice of blocking IDs without due process was unlawful. The number of blocked IDs was reduced from 2.5-million to 385-thousand by the end of July. The movement’s Bongani Ramontja says many affected citizens are unable to get jobs or access social grants.
