Testifying at the Madlanga commission in Pretoria, Masemola said this interference blocked proper oversight and slowed investigations into political killings and criminal cartels. He added Mchunu backed Sibiya’s efforts to centralise investigations, including those of the political killings task team, which risked obstructing ongoing investigations:
