# National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has welcomed the Pietermaritzburg High Court’s sentencing of hitman Sabelo Phewa to two life terms for the 2017 murder of Richmond Municipal Manager Sibusiso Sithole. Sithole was probing municipal corruption specifically concerning tenders and kickbacks when he was gunned down. The police’s political killings task team linked Phewa to multiple murders, including that of Amos Ngcobo. He also received sentences for attempted murder, illegal firearm possession, and ammunition. Masemola praised the task team’s work.
