# FNB says the risk of digital banking fraud is on the increase, as South Africans head into the last stretch of the year and spending rises. According to the South African Banking Risk Information Centre, digital banking fraud incidents increased from 31-thousand-612 cases in 2023 to 64-thousand in 2024. FNB’s Chris Boxall says scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in how they execute social engineering. He says this refers to the act of psychologically manipulating victims into performing actions or divulging confidential information:
