Defending champion Noah Lyles of the US won bronze. This is Jamaica’s first world sprint title since Usain Bolt in 2016. South African duo Gift Leotlela and Akani Simbine finished fifth and seventh, respectively. The country’s record holder in the women’s 100-metres hurdles, Marioné Fourie, is through to the semifinals. South African champion Zakithi Nene and his compatriot Lythe Pillay are through to the men’s 400-metres semifinals.
