# The United States has vowed to stand by NATO after Russia’s overnight incursion into Poland. Washington’s ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, said the White House would defend “every inch of NATO territory”. Germany, meanwhile has warned Russia it will respond to the incursion. Berlin’s defence minister Boris Pistorius told the Bundestag the drones that entered Poland’s airspace had been clearly armed. German Patriot systems were involved in the response, using their radars to detect the Russian drones, but it didn’t fire any missiles.
