# French lawmakers have voted to oust prime minister François Bayrou in a confidence vote, plunging the country into a new political crisis. A total of 364 members of Parliament voted against him and 194 voted for him. This comes after he called the vote in a bid to push through an unpopular savings plan that included scrapping two public holidays and freezing government spending. The 74-year-old is set to hand his resignation to president Emmanuel Macron today, who must now appoint a fifth prime minister in less than two-years.
