# National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union president, Mike Shingange, says they will not be forced into signing a collective agreement permitting retrenchments in the public service. Shingange stressed the union’s mandate to unite, protect, and fight for workers. Shingange warned against disguising forced retrenchments as voluntary severance packages, adding that employees must not be coerced into leaving early. He cautioned that this could spark unrest in the public service:
