# The MK Party is seeking legal advice on president Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to appoint professor Firoz Cachalia as acting minister of Police. This follows the president placing minister Senzo Mchunu on special leave pending the outcome of the commission of inquiry, which will probe allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. MK’s national spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, told eNCA the appointment of Cachalia, who is neither a member of cabinet nor Parliament, violates the Constitution:
Meanwhile Build One South Africa says Ramaphosa should have established a Special Investigating Unit probe into the allegations. The judicial commission of inquiry must investigate allegations relating to the infiltration of law enforcement, intelligence, and associated institutions within the criminal justice system by criminal syndicates. BOSA leader Mmusi Maimane says it is concerning that Ramaphosa has opted to delay justice through an inquiry:
# ActionSA in Gauteng will lay criminal charges against several medical aid schemes at the Lyttelton Police Station in Centurion today. A Section 59 inquiry found that Discovery, the Government Employees Medical Scheme and Medscheme acted unfairly and in a racially discriminatory manner towards black healthcare providers. ActionSA’s spokesperson, Matthew George, says the inquiry also found that black practitioners faced a disproportionately higher likelihood of investigation and sanction:
# Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will host US president Donald Trump and first lady Melania at Windsor Castle from the 17th to the 19th of September. This will be Trump’s second visit to the UK, having been hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2019. According to reports, it will be unlikely that Trump will address Parliament, as the House of Commons will not be sitting. UK ambassador to the US, Peter Mandelson, says Trump should be welcomed warmly on this visit.
# Rugby: The British and Irish Lions have called up Irish and Leinster tighthead prop, Tom Clarkson, as additional front-row cover ahead of the first Test against Australia on Saturday. The 25-year-old’s call-up increases the Irish contingent in the Lions squad to 18. Clarkson’s Irish teammate, utility back Jamie Osborne, is already with the squad in Brisbane after being summoned from Portugal as cover for Blair Kinghorn, who injured his knee. English and Saracens hooker Jamie George has also received a call-up.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-92-cents and the euro at 20-rand-90-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-12-cents and Bitcoin trades at 122-thousand-135-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-368-dollars-61-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 69-dollars-71-cents a barrel.
