Ramokgopa unveils blended-finance plan for 2030 universal electricity access goal

# Electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has outlined a new universal access strategy aimed at electrifying 1.6-million South African homes by 2030. Speaking in Parliament, Ramokgopa revealed a blended-finance model that integrates grid and off-grid technologies, especially in rural and informal areas. The plan includes consolidating access programmes, upgrading networks, and repurposing the Integrated National Electrification Programme grant to attract private investment. The minister says with 13-billion-rand allocated, the strategy repositions electrification as a developmental priority with measurable socio-economic returns.
