Estate agents concerned as Johannesburg Deeds Office closure sparks cash‑flow crisis

# Estate agents have raised concerns following the closure of the Johannesburg Deeds Office causing widespread property registrations back-log and a severe cash-flow crisis. The closure since February is reportedly due to unsafe building conditions including broken lifts, sewage leaks and flooding. Agents says transactions halted since February, with a backlog delaying sales by two to three months, while withholding commissions until transfers are finalised. While the office is relocating to temporary premises, there’s no clear reopening date, deepening the sector’s financial strain.
