# The South African National Taxi Council has confirmed the death of its national chairperson, Zola Yolelo, during a police shootout on the R61 between Mthatha and Ngcobo last night. Yolelo was among six men killed in an operation targeting extortion suspects. Police say the men opened fire first. Yolelo who was a respected leader in the taxi industry, built his career from car washer to SANTACO national chairperson. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
