# According to Statistics South Africa, mining production fell by 7.7-percent year-on-year in April. The biggest decline came from platinum group metals, down over 24-percent, followed by drops in gold and coal output. Iron ore was the only major mineral to show growth, rising by 5.3-percent. Stats SA’s Juan-Pierre Terblanche says while there was a slight monthly increase in both production and sales, the three-month trend remains negative:
