# The Pentagon has confirmed that it is activating 700 active-duty US Marines to the Los Angeles area to help the federal response to protests against immigration raids and deportations. It says the Marines will seamlessly integrate with around two-thousand-100 National Guard troops already on the ground, protecting federal personnel and property. LA mayor Karen Bass says the city is being used for an experiment by the federal government:
