Invasive Kariba weed harming dams in Johannesburg

# Invasive Kariba weed has taken over dams in Johannesburg’s Lonehill and Witkoppen Spruit Parks. The Salvinia Molesta, more commonly known as Kariba weed, is clogging up waterways and harming aquatic life. Johannesburg City Parks says the fast-growing weed thrives in polluted, nutrient-rich water made worse by sewage leaks. It adds that the metro, through partnerships, aims to address the root causes, particularly pollution from sewage leaks, while implementing mechanical removal and biological control methods.
