# The City of Cape Town’s Urban Waste Management Directorate is urging residents to reduce waste in a bid to collectively help protect the environment. The metro currently manages about 2.1-million tonnes of waste annually, with about 31.53-percent of this waste currently diverted from landfills. Mayoral committee member for Urban Waste Management, Grant Twigg, says some tips to reduce waste include cutting down on products with lots of packaging, and reusing boxes or sorting them for recycling:
