Durban’s smart city project launches in eThekwini Municipality

# The first phase of the Westown smart city in Shongweni, near Durban, has launched today, with 15-billion-rand in private sector investment expected over the next 15 years. The development, supported by the eThekwini Municipality, aims to create over 23-thousand jobs and includes retail, housing, and healthcare. Officials say the smart city will use technology for maintenance, security, and efficiency. Infrastructure upgrades include new bridges and road expansions to support the project’s long-term vision.
