# The Electoral Court dismisses Jabulani Khumalo’s case against Jacob Zuma and the MK Party

# Expelled MK Party founder Jabulani Khumalo’s attempt to have former president Jacob Zuma removed as leader of the party was dismissed by the Electoral Court. Khumalo wanted the Electoral Commission to reinstate him as leader after he was replaced by Zuma. The court ruled Khumalo perjured himself; the application was frivolous; lacked merits; and constituted an abuse of the court’s process. He has to pay the legal costs of MK and Zuma.
Meanwhile, Build One South Africa has urged MK to attend the first parliamentary sitting on Friday. The party’s 58 elected MPs plan to boycott the sitting, challenging the election results. BOSA leader Mmusi Maimane condemned this move, urging MK to present their concerns within Parliament through debate and representation, rather than boycotting the proceedings.
# The Department of Health has ramped up efforts to curb the spread of M-pox, following the confirmation of five cases and one fatality. The department is collaborating with HIV programmes and key organisations to raise awareness. Briefing the media, minister of Health Joe Phaahla says Tecovirimat, an antiviral medication, has been secured for severe cases through World Health Organisation donations:
# The Western Cape Education Department’s online admissions system will start auto-confirming placements for Grade 1 and 8 next year, prioritising the highest-ranked school choice. Spokesperson Bronagh Hammond has reminded parents they have until Friday to accept or decline offers. Parents are reminded placement activities will pause during the mid-year school break. She says the department will assist with placement options later this year if needed:
# Cricket: India will look for their third consecutive victory at the T20 World Cup today. They are seen as one of the favourites and are expected to easily dispatch of the USA. But the co-hosts have also won both of their matches, including a victory over Pakistan. Today’s game will be played in New York – a venue that has produced very low-scoring unpredictable contests. India’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, says they will not underestimate the US:
