# South Africa approves the support of 50-million-rand to Gaza

# Justice and Constitutional Development minister Ronald Lamola has announced that South Africa has approved 50-million-rand to support the people of Gaza. He led a South African delegation to the Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response to Gaza conference in Jordan. Lamola says South Africa also supports the efforts of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, to hold accountable persons responsible for the war in Gaza:
# The African Transformation Movement says it has filed papers with the Electoral Court, calling for the court’s due consideration of allegations of misconduct against the Electoral Commission’s chairperson, Mosotho Moepya. The ATM’s spokesperson, Zama Ntshona, says incorporating the compelling allegations put forth by Advocate Winston Erasmus, the party outlined how Moepya allegedly conspired with the ANC to undermine ATM’s participation in the democratic process. Ntshona says this included attempts to deregister the party and manipulate election outcomes:
# Malawian president Lazarus Chakwera has declared 21-days of mourning for the late vice president, Saulos Chilima, and the nine other people who were killed when their military plane crashed earlier this week. Flags will fly at half-mast during the 21-days. Information minister Moses Kunkuyu confirmed all the bodies have been identified, with funeral arrangements to be discussed today. The group was en route to the funeral of former minister Ralph Kasambara. Former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri was also on the ill-fated flight.
# Olympics: The world record holder and Olympic champion in the 100 metre backstroke, Kaylee McKeown, has posted the second-fastest time in the item ever during Australia’s trials for the Games in Paris. She touched the wall in 57.41-seconds, just shy of her world record of 57.33, beating Mollie O’Callaghan who became only the fourth swimmer to post a sub-58-seconds. O’Callaghan may decide to opt out of the item in Paris because of her heavy schedule, while Iona Anderson also posted a qualifying time.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-57-cents and the euro at 19-rand-97-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-69-cents and Bitcoin trades at 67-thousand-454-dollars-16-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-314-dollars-31-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 82-dollars-81-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Pick n Pay has partnered with the Southern African Agri Initiative to strengthen support for local farmers, including more exposure to consumers. This is through a television show and sponsorship of the annual Lamb Champs competition. Now in its third year, the competition showcases some of the country’s best lamb. Saai CEO, Francois Rossouw, says the competition allows consumers to have a greater appreciation for the products:
