# The DA is reportedly exploring two options as coalition talks continue. With the ANC only managing to get 40-percent of the vote and the DA 21.76-percent, the parties could establish a coalition for a joint 60-percent majority. The DA has formed a coalition negotiating team, which includes former party leaders Helen Zille and Tony Leon. According to News24, several sources in the DA say the party is exploring forming a coalition government with the ANC that will include cabinet posts, or the DA takes the most senior positions in Parliament.
Meanwhile North-West University School of Business and Governance professor, Raymond Parsons, says the immediate prospects of coalition governance embody both risks and opportunities. Parsons says the challenge now is to create a framework of stable governance, which is needed to promote business and investor confidence:
# Police in KwaZulu-Natal have launched a manhunt for four suspects who allegedly shot and killed three women in Umzinto. The women were preparing to sleep when the attackers forced the door open and fatally wounded them. The surviving victims, including an eleven-year-old girl, have gunshot wounds. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the suspects are unknown, and the motive is yet to be established:
# Indian prime minister Narendra Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance is currently leading as the country’s Election Commission continues counting over 600-million ballots. Preliminary results show the alliance is leading in just under 300 seats, while opposition parties are ahead in about 200. A party or alliance that wins more than 272 seats in the 543-member Parliament can form the government. Modi is largely expected to clinch a third consecutive term.
