Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The IEC gives assurance that result management processes have been developed in compliance with Electoral Act
# President Ramaphosa signs the Revenue Laws Amendment Bill establishing two-pot retirement system
# And, rugby: Late URC try saves Stormers in clash with Lions
# The Electoral Commission’s chairperson has highlighted to political parties and South Africans that the Result Management Process is the most sensitive part of delivering credible election results. Addressing the media, Mosotho Moepya confirmed the collection process is over 99-percent complete. He emphasises the result management was developed in-house to comply with the Electoral Act, with systems thoroughly tested:
Meanwhile, the ANC remains in the lead nationally as the Electoral Commission is nearly complete with processing the voting district results. Preliminary results show the ANC at 40.17-percent followed by the DA at 21.82-percent and the MK Party at 14.59-percent. In KwaZulu-Natal, MK is leading with 45.35-percent followed by the IFP at 18.07-percent and the ANC third with 16.99-percent. In Gauteng, the ANC leads with 34.75-percent followed by the DA at 27.54-percent and the EFF at 12.91-percent. In the Western Cape, the DA is maintaining its majority with 55.29-percent followed by the ANC at 19.55-percent and the Patriotic Alliance with 7.8-percent of the votes.
# President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed the Revenue Laws Amendment Bill of 2023, introducing the two-pot retirement system. His spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says the system allows retirement fund members to access savings without resigning or cashing out pension funds entirely. He emphasises it includes a savings component accessible in financial distress and a retirement component preserved until retirement:
President Ramaphosa has also signed legislation ensuring the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport complies with the World Anti-Doping Code. Magwenya says the amendments enhance anti-doping policies and fight against drugs in sports. The institute now has clarified powers as the national anti-doping organisation:
# And finally, Rugby: The Stormers scored a late try to snatch a bonus-point victory over the Lions and secure fifth place on the United Rugby Championship log in Cape Town this afternoon. Trailing by nine points at half time and losing wing Angelo Davids to a second-half red card, the Stormers fought back to grab a 29-24 victory. For the Lions, getting a losing bonus point should be enough to see them through to the quarter-finals as the eighth-placed finishers, after Benetton thrashed Edinburgh.
