# Eskom says it is charging more for electricity consumption from today after the Energy Regulator approved the electricity tariff increases. Eskom direct customers can expect from today to 31 March 2025 a percentage increase of 12.74-percent for all tariff charges except the affordability subsidy. Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena says the affordability subsidy charge is raised as a subsidy to the Homelight 20 amp circuit breaker tariff and is determined by Nersa:
# The Moral Regeneration Movement in North West on Sunday condemned the robbery during an Easter church service in Jouberton outside Klerksdorp. Congregants were robbed of their valued possessions after by five unknown gunmen stormed into the church on Thursday night. The convenor of the MRM in North West, Pastor Lesiba Kgwele says opportunistic crimes of this nature targeted at church gatherings and other places of worship are threatening congregants’ constitutional right of freedom of assembly:
# The National Sea Rescue Institute has seen a significant increase in emergency response incidents along a Garden Route hiking trail. In one of the incidents, they were called out to assist a woman suffering from heat stroke at the Robberg Nature Reserve in Plettenberg Bay. NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says day walkers and hikers are often surprised at just how gruelling seemingly easy trails can be:
# Seven journalists, including a freelancer working for the BBC, have been injured in an Israeli air strike in the courtyard of a hospital in Gaza. According to the BBC four members of the Islamic Jihad militant group were killed in the attack. The Israeli military said it struck an IJ command centre in the grounds of the al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah. Hamas and medical staff deny Israeli accusations that militants use hospitals as bases. Al-Aqsa is the last hospital functioning in the central Gaza Strip.
And finally tennis,Italian Jannik Sinner dominated Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 6-1 on Sunday to win the Miami Open for the first time. The 32-year-old Bulgarian, who has experienced a career renaissance this season, had no answer for the Italian’s flawless game. Sinner won 88-percent of his first serve points and thumped 15 winners to capture the title in South Florida after finishing as the runner-up in 2021 and 2023. Sinner has won 25 of his last 26 matches and has only lost three times since last year’s US Open.
