# Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, says South Africa remains steadfast in advocating for international peace and security, through inclusive dialogue and the peaceful political settlement of disputes. The minister addressed the 55th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. Pandor says the lack of respect for life and livelihood that has been observed in Gaza since the seventh of October attack is deeply concerning:
She added while it is correct to call out Hamas for its crimes against the innocent, the world must also deplore its inaction in seven decades of occupation. Pandor says current global challenges require the promotion of an equitable multilateral system, adding that tolerance is a precursor to peace:
# Deputy president Paul Mashatile is set to deliver a keynote address at the national conference on the integrated criminal justice system programme in Boksburg, Gauteng. # The South African Council for Educators told the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein that it acted within the law when sanctioning two teachers found guilty of common assault after administering corporal punishment. The teachers from Gauteng and Limpopo were fined 15-thousand-rand each of which five-thousand-rand was suspended. In addition, their names were removed from the educator’s roll, and suspended for ten years. Section 27 on behalf of the Centre for Child Law argued that the teachers received lenient sanctions and should face fresh hearings.
# Soccer: Everton’s ten-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules has been reduced to six following their appeal. The English club was sanctioned in November last year, after being found to have exceeded permitted losses over an assessment period ending with the 2021-2022 season. The reduction has lifted Everton from 17th to 15th on the Premier League table. However, the club is facing another possible points deduction, after being charged along with Nottingham Forest last month for alleged breaches in their accounts for 2022-2023.
