SACP condemns killing of EC councillor candidate ahead of first solo local polls

# The SACP condemns the brutal assassination of its Ward 10 councillor candidate Ernest Fipaza in Mbhashe, Eastern Cape, saying threats in other areas render elections unfree and unfair. Addressing the Red October Campaign rally, the party said it will contest local government elections independently for the first time since 1994 on 4 November under the slogan “Build people’s power”. The organisation’s Pius Vilakati says they reject neo-liberal reforms, privatisation and austerity, calling for public ownership and the right to work for all.
