Pope cancels Assisi visit to recover from cancer surgery

# Pope Leo the Fourteenth has cancelled a planned visit to Assisi in Italy on Tuesday, following medical advice to avoid a helicopter flight while recovering from lung cancer surgery. The Vatican says a follow-up chest X-ray showed his recovery was progressing very well. The 71-year-old pontiff had part of his right lung removed on 13 October, and tests confirmed the cancer was localised, with no further treatment needed. He will send a message to an interfaith peace gathering instead.
