ABSA sees improved fiscal position ahead of budget

# Absa says South Africa is in a stronger fiscal position ahead of this week’s Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement. Senior economist Miyelani Maluleke says global conflicts have weakened the world economy, pushing down prices of key exports, including platinum and palladium, while petroleum import costs have risen. Despite these pressures, Maluleke remains confident Finance minister Enoch Godongwana’s team can reduce the budget deficit, stabilise government debt and lower borrowing costs over time.
