# The shack dwellers’ movement Abahlali baseMjondolo has strongly condemned the record-breaking fuel price increases for this month, warning that it will push vulnerable South Africans even deeper into poverty and suffering. Petrol prices have gone up by between three-rand-12-cents and three-rand-33-cents per litre; and diesel prices by between two-rand-84-cents and three-rand-24-cents a litre. Abahlali baseMjondolo says a worker earning the national minimum wage still does not earn enough to buy a nutritionally adequate food basket for a household, even before paying rent, electricity, transport, school costs and other necessities.
