# And Rugby: Jack Conan believes Italy will soon make a breakthrough in the Six Nations
# Parliament welcomes the decision of the Western Cape High Court to dismiss the application of six EFF Members of Parliament seeking to overturn their temporary suspension. The court’s ruling pertained to last year’s state of the nation address, where EFF leader Julius Malema, deputy president Floyd Shivambu and four other members disregarded speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s directive to vacate the chamber after they stormed the stage. Parliament characterised the EFF’s legal challenge as an abuse of process. It reaffirms its commitment to maintaining order during significant events.
Meanwhile, the African Transformation Movement says president Cyril Ramaphosa will perform cosmetic surgery on the real state of the nation. The party says this is to try and cover the shame of how under his reign and leadership, he has led South Africa to a state of despondency through his epic failures. The ATM’s spokesperson, Zama Ntshona says the real state of the nation address should include the president admitting that the new dawn he promised was never delivered:
# Metrorail in the Western Cape says train services have been partially reinstated following severe disruptions caused by vandalism between Bellville and Tygerberg stations. Operational lines now include the Cape Flats Line, Cape Town to Heathfield via Athlone and Southern Line, Cape Town to Fish Hoek via Wynberg. Efforts are underway to restore the Central Line. Spokesperson Zinobulali Mihi says dedicated technicians have been working around the clock to recover the affected areas:
# Rugby: Ireland’s eighthman, Jack Conan, believes Italy will soon start to beat the other teams in the Six Nations. This follows after England had to stage a huge second half comeback to beat the Azzurri in the first round of the competition. Ireland also struggled to beat Italy in Rome last year, while Italy beat Wales in 2022. Conan says the Italians are known for their passion and emotion, but are now bringing accuracy into their game as well. Ireland will welcome Italy in Dublin in the second round of the competition on Sunday.
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-97-cents and the euro at 20-rand-40-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-89-cents and Bitcoin trades at 44-thousand-698-dollars-68-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-and-26-dollars-11-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 80-dollars-6-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Former Eskom chief operating officer Jan Oberholzer has been named as a non-executive director of Sub-Saharan Africa renewable energy project developer, Jearrard Energy Resources Group. Oberholzer’s appointment coincides with the company’s development of a 12 GiggaWatt solar-to-green-hydrogen facility in Mozambique. The facility aims to supply green hydrogen for export, power plants, and nano- and micro-grid solutions to achieve net zero by 2050. Oberholzer will provide advisory support for the implementation of solar-to-green-hydrogen projects in Mozambique and other Southern African countries.
