# Eastern Cape ANC Youth League leader and ward councillor candidate Ngawonke Bulala has died from gunshot wounds, three months after he was ambushed in Qumbu. He was shot alongside fellow league activist Wonele Gontshi, who died at the scene. Bulala had been in hospital since the June attack. No arrests have been made. His death has raised concerns about the safety of political candidates ahead of next month’s local government elections. The ANC has called for an end to gun violence.
