# Pope Leo the Fourteenth has condemned medically assisted dying as “false compassion” during a visit to Lourdes in France. Speaking to about 150-thousand people at a Mass yesterday, Leo said people living with severe illness and pain have an inherent dignity that must be respected. He said laws should not remove that dignity and declared that what is legal is not necessarily moral. France recently approved legislation allowing adults with incurable illnesses to receive lethal medication. Leo also met seven survivors of clergy sexual abuse during his visit.
