# The Gauteng Department of Education owes more than two-thousand schools about 971-million-rand in unpaid funding. News24 reports, the money is meant for textbooks, maintenance and other basic school needs. The department said cash flow problems caused the delays and that payments are being made as money becomes available. The poorest schools are owed nearly 473-million-rand, while special schools are owed about 251-million-rand. The department plans to settle the outstanding May payments before 15 November.
