# The Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape is on track to source about 80-percent of its electricity from renewable energy by May next year. The institution will receive up to 55-percent from electricity trader Etana, while its own 4.4-megawatt solar project will contribute up to 30-percent. The shift follows severe load-shedding, which saw the university rely heavily on diesel generators. The initiative is expected to save up to 12-million-rand annually and cut carbon emissions by about 12-thousand tonnes.
