DA slams Eskom’s planned electricity tariff increase

# The DA has warned that Eskom’s promise to keep tariff increases in single digits offers little comfort to consumers. DA Electricity and Energy spokesperson, Kevin Mileham, says an 8.83-percent increase planned for 2027/28 is nearly three times the Reserve Bank’s inflation target. Mileham also questions rising employment and executive costs at Eskom, while electricity sales decline as consumers use less power and increase self-generation. He warns higher tariffs could drive customers away and calls for greater cost controls and transparency.
