# The National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications has proposed amendments to South Africa’s compulsory safety standards for new passenger vehicles. The draft includes at least four airbags, mandatory side-impact protection, Electronic Stability Control, and requirements covering cybersecurity and advanced driver-assistance systems. It also addresses electric, hybrid, hydrogen and gas-powered vehicles. The NRCS is inviting consumers, manufacturers and other stakeholders to comment. The proposed changes were published in the Government Gazette and include an 18-month compliance period.
