# Former British prime minister Sir Keir Starmer is to stand down as member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras, triggering a by-election in the London constituency. Starmer says he has decided it’s the right time to leave Parliament after eleven years as an MP. He will now focus on international affairs, including defence, security, trade and technology. Starmer also plans to continue his work combating violence against women and girls. He left Downing Street in July and was replaced by Andy Burnham.
